As a travel photographer I'm always interested to see how people get around. I spend a lot of time surrounded by att types of transport that present me with lots of photo opportunities - as well as hassle. Transport around the world is often unique and people are more at ease being photographed on a bicycle or motorbike than if stopped walking along the street.
I like creating movement in my images by panning the camera at a slow shutter speed when photographing people driving by. This blurs the background but keeps the subject in the centre of the frame relatively sharp, Sometimes, I will also add a burst of fill-in flash to further freeze the action. The resulting pictures isolate the subject and can create more of a feeling of what it's like to actually be there.
On most trips, I will stand on a street at some point panning and recording street life as it passes by. I always choose a busy location with plenty of people and movement such as the area around a market. It's a fun way of observing local life and taking Interesting pictures. |
